7 Ways to Use dōTERRA’s Petitgrain Essential Oil to Brighten Your Day!

In my opinion, DōTERRA’s Petitgrain EO is an unsung hero and a workhorse that isn’t properly being put to work!! This oil is so versatile that the title to this post could have been 7 ways to use Petitgrain EO to brighten your day AND give you a restful night’s sleep! But that seemed a little long so here we go, let’s dive right in to Petitgrain’s goodness.  

So first things first, one important thing to remember about Petitgrain is that it plays REALLY well with citrus.  All citrus!  If you’ve ever cracked the lid on a bottle of Petitgrain and decided on the spot that the smell wasn’t for you, then go dust off that bottle and bring it out to play with citrus friends!! 🙌🏽 

So even if you don’t prefer the smell, I would really urge you to start incorporating it in the ways I’m going to suggest below because not only is it going to grow on you, but you’re going to start seeing some amazing benefits from incorporating this powerhouse oil into your daily regimen.  Yep, I said daily.  Let’s get to it!

1. Petitgrain is so beautifully supportive to the immune system!  Give your OnGuard a rest every so often and let Petitgrain stand guard instead! Switching up the oils you use for daily support will keep your body happy and healthy all year long.  Bonus- If your immune system has already been compromised then use Petitgrain on the chest or in diffuser to support healthy breathing.  😉

2. As mentioned earlier, Petitgrain+Citrus= Match made in heaven. So now you’re going to diffuse them together to brighten your day! To reduce sad or anxious feelings here are some ideas to try:

🍋Lemon 
🍊Wild Orange
🍋Bergamot
🍊Tangerine
🍋Lime
🍊Red Mandarin
🍋Elevation Blend
🍊Citrus Bliss Blend

Add equal drops of chosen citrus and Petitgrain to your diffuser and feel that gray fog lift. ✨

3. Is this winter weather giving your skin a rough time?!  Combine 10 drops Blue Tansy, 10 drops Petitgrain into a 10ml roller bottle and top with Jojoba oil for a Magic Stick face serum that is great for dry or chapped skin and also can be used as a spot treatment for blemishes. Don’t have Blue Tansy in your stash yet? It’s cool, just do the 10 drops Petitgrain and top with FCO.  

4. Use Petitgrain for emotional balance!! If you’re feeling all the feels, I want you to stop, drop what you’re doing and take a moment to inhale some Bergamot and Petitgrain.  How you’ll do this, is put one drop of Bergamot in the palm of one hand, then rub both hands together, cup hands around nose and mouth and inhale deeply for one minute.  Then repeat with Petitgrain.  You’ll adjust your mood and be feeling harmonized in no time at all. 🧘🏽‍♀️

5. Petitgrain is also fantastic to support a healthy scalp! So you can simply open up that bottle of plain ol shampoo you have in your shower and supercharge it by adding 10-20 drops of Petitgrain right into the bottle! This is especially effective for oily hair types or if you deal with pesky white dandruff flakes.

6. Petitgrain has a long history of being used for cleaning!  Make a super easy spray bottle of 20 drops Petitgrain and 20 drops Lemon to clean in your kitchen and bathrooms. 

7. Lastly, Petitgrain will help you fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer, and increase feelings of calmness!! So now you’re going to combine a few drops of Petitgrain with a few drops of Lavender in your diffuser and then rub a few drops on your feet before you head to bed for the evening.

Kid-Approved Smoothies

These smoothie recipes are a go-to in our household for the whole family to enjoy!

Get your kids involved in the kitchen and let them each take turns dumping ingredients into the blender. Sit your little guys up on the counter so they can be in on the action and give your older ones “bigger” tasks like pouring the almond milk in or operating the blender. It’s a great way to include your kiddos on your wellness journey!

Blueberry Lemon Smoothie

2 cups Almond Milk
Handful of Spinach 
1 Tbsp Chia Seed
1 cup Frozen Blueberries
1 Tbsp Almond Butter
2 scoops Vanilla or Vegan doTERRA Trim Shake
1-2 drop Lemon Essential Oil

Serves 2 or one meal replacement. 

Mix all ingredients in blender, pour in cups, and let the whole family enjoy!

This next one is a delicious and a great alternative to a milkshake when you’re craving sweets!

Chocolate Cherry Smoothie
2 cups Almond Milk
Handful of Spinach
1/2 cup Frozen Cherries
Tbsp Chia Seed
1 Tbsp Almond Butter
2 scoops Chocolate Trim shake or 
2 scoops Vegan Trim Shake + 1  Tbsp Cacao powder (dairy free and vegan)

Mix all ingredients in blender, pour in cups, and let the whole family enjoy!

*Use organic ingredients when possible

You don’t have to have these exact ingredients to create a delicious smoothie. Test out different flavors by incorporating whatever fresh or frozen fruit you have on hand and find the combination that works best for your family!
